RandA (Raspberry and Arduino) is a board for Raspberry Pi (B+, 2, 3) with Atmega328 microcontroller, RTC (Real Time Clock), power button and sleep timer, connectors for 5 volts (a micro USB and a screw terminal) and connectors for mounting Arduino shield.
RandA allows you to take advantage of the hardware equipment and the enormous potential of the Linux platform Raspberry Pi and the quantity of shield and sketch for Arduino.
The link between the two platforms is accomplished by the connector of Raspberry Pi, and uses the first 20 pins: this allows you to use RandA on Raspberry Pi B + and B.
The serial port is used for programming the Atmega 328 and for communication with Raspberry Pi. The Arduino programming is done via a Linux script that triggers the reset, allowing uploading sketches. The Arduino programming can be done locally, through the IDE installed on Raspberry Pi, or remotely using an IDE for PC modified to simulate a remote port.
Raspberry Pi could use the Arduino as a configurable device; the sketch is chosen from time to time, on the basis of a library of sketch prepared, and is automatically downloaded to Arduino.
Arduino can also controll Raspberry Pi, and it could launch a command and communicate with it; in practice, the Raspberry Pi will become an appendix sophisticated for Arduino, allowing access to complex environments such as network, or allowing complex processing or access to multimedia.
You can turn on Raspberry Pi and Arduino at scheduled times, thanks to the RTC with alarm clock. The RTC provides a clock to Raspberry even when not connected to the Internet.
Arduino controller can turn on Raspberry Pi in case there is some condition detected by its digital pins or analog.
